Japanese Particles: を・に・から・で

に — Marking the Destination

に marks where something goes. Contrast "add ... to" and "put ... into": English changes the preposition, Japanese uses に for both.

#buttonに .activeを 追加

= add .active to #button

#buttonに
.activeを
追加
DEST
PAT
VERB
to #button
.active
add (command)

"hello"を #outputに 置く

= put "hello" into #output

"hello"を
#outputに
置く
PAT
DEST

hello
into #output
put (command)

#menuに .activeを 切り替え

= toggle .active on #menu

#menuに
.activeを
切り替え
DEST
PAT
VERB
on #menu
.active
toggle (command)
Three different English prepositions — to, into, on — all map to に. English varies for idiomatic reasons (you add *to* a button but put something *into* an output); Japanese is consistent because the underlying role has not changed.

Choose the correct particle. Aim for 8 out of 10.
